Sungjoon Kim (Undergraduate senior of idKAIST, advisor: Prof. Kyung-Won Chung) and his team members received two Best Awards at iF Lebensraume 2009. The final 15 entries were awarded in the competition under the theme of ‘life’, ‘live’, ‘work’ and he won the two Best Awards with “Rescue Stick” and “Recovery Arm Sling”. Rescue Stick is a baton-shaped portable life saving equipment which provides rapid flotation assistance to a person at risk of drowning. Recovery Arm Sling is a medical appliance which is designed for not only functioning as an ordinary arm sling, but also operating as a recovery device after the cast treatment. Each product was designed by a part of the program called Samsung Design Membership and he cooperated with the fellows from Hanyang, Yeonsei and Chungang University. iF Lebensraume Award is an international design competition supported by Vincentz Network and operated by iF (International Forum Design) which is one of the 3 top design contests in the world along with IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards) and Red dot. He was invited to the award ceremony on 24 March at the special exhibition “Lebensraume” in the context of the fair “Altenpflege + Propflege” in Nuremberg, Germany and his awarded entries were exhibited during this fair from 24 to 26 March.
