Sung-jin Kim (Advisor/Professor Kun-Pyo Lee) from the Department of Industrial Design at KAIST received the gold award in Imagine Cup 2008, an international software design competition. Under the theme of “enabling a sustainable environment through technology,” Kim clinched the gold with his algorithm S/W that locates the optimal ecological corridor for living creatures in order to prevent road kill. Kim has been awarded with 2 million won in prize money and will advance to the final competition in Paris, France. Imagine Cup 2008 select top 3 finalists out of the 307 participating teams based on software novelty, innovation, and presentation skills. Imagine Cup first began in 2003 and has grown to become a global competition with last year’s finals held in Seoul, South Korea. Now in its sixth year, Imagine Cup is Microsoft’s annual competition for all students aged 16 and above. The event is co-hosted by Microsoft, Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development, and UNESCO.
