Sung Jin Kim received presidential award

KAIST Industrial Design student Sung Jin Kim (advising Professor: Kun-Pyo Lee) was awarded winner of '2008 Korean Bright Mind Award (Presidential honor)' collaborated by Ministry of Science and Technology and Korea Science Creativity Foundation. Kim was known as computer talent since young, sweeping 20 minster/presidential award including grand winner of 18th Korea Information Olympiad (KOI), gold in 16th Korea Information Olympiad (KOI) and grand winner of the 1st middle-high school creative computer software contest. Advancing to KAIST, Kim grew interest to well being of disabled, developing complementary communication equipment AAC for speaking/hearing impaired after 4 years of research and development. The high-tech equipment enables speaking-impaired like Steven Hawking to communicate already developed three in overseas but none in Korea until 2006, by Kim. Recently, Kim developed EMG driving system that enables handicapped people to drive and was awarded winner of Hyundai/Kia Motor company contest. Kim was also awarded gold in Microsoft World Software Olympic Imagine Cup held in March 2008 by developing ecological pathway simulation system that protects animals from being hit by the car. Korean Bright Mind Award finds and awards talented young mind with outstanding creativity since 2001 which has been elevated in status to Presidential level this year. The winner will be awarded in Blue House by president himself late November. The winner will be also invited to Global Talent Forum open only to VIPs.
